Signed comics range from informally signed (at conventions) to CGC Signature Series — where a CGC witness verifies the signing in real time. The authentication method dramatically affects value: a CGC SS copy carries far more weight than a raw signature. Creator prominence and the historical significance of the issue are the primary value drivers.

What experienced collectors check before buying signed copies.
CGC Signature Series (yellow label) provides the strongest authentication — prefer it when paying a premium.
For raw signatures, ask who signed it, when, and if there's any provenance documentation.
Convention-signed copies rarely command the same premium as CGC SS unless the creator is very prominent.
Authentication from reputable comic signing companies (Heroes Con, etc.) adds some assurance but isn't as strong as CGC SS.
