NEWSSTAND EDITIONS
Newsstand editions were sold at newsstands, drug stores, and supermarkets from the late 1970s until around 2013, while direct editions went exclusively to comic shops. Newsstand copies were typically returned and pulped if unsold, resulting in far lower survival rates in high grade. A sharp-cornered NM newsstand can be a legitimate rarity on popular bronze and copper age books.

What experienced collectors check before buying newsstand editions.
Confirm it's genuinely a newsstand — look for the UPC barcode box or a price box on the cover (not the diamond direct logo).
High-grade newsstands on popular issues command premiums; low-grade copies rarely justify the extra cost.
Check the CGC census population report — newsstand graded copies are often dramatically less common than direct copies.
Canadian price variants (35¢, 40¢) are related but distinct; confirm pricing if that matters to you.
