FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
🛒 BUYING
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are processed securely via Stripe. Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) are accepted. Depending on your browser and device, Apple Pay or Google Pay may also appear at checkout. There are no buyer fees — you pay only the listing price plus any stated shipping cost.
Can I message a seller before buying?
Yes. Every listing has a Message Seller button. Messages go through FindMeComics' built-in inbox — no personal contact details are shared. Sellers' average response time is displayed on their profile page so you can gauge how quickly they reply.
How long do I have to report a problem with my order?
You have 30 days from confirmed delivery to open a dispute. First contact the seller directly and give them 48 hours to respond. If the issue is unresolved, open a dispute from your order page. Full dispute process →
What if the comic's grade doesn't match the listing?
If the book arrives in noticeably worse condition than described — significant undisclosed damage, wrong pressing, missing pages — that qualifies as "significantly not as described" and is covered under Buyer Protection. Minor grade disagreements (you expected a tighter 9.2 but got a loose one) are not eligible for a dispute, as grading has a subjective element. How to open a dispute →
Is it safe to buy raw (ungraded) comics here?
Yes — the majority of transactions on FindMeComics involve raw books. Sellers are required to accurately describe condition using our standardised grade scale (Poor through Near Mint). Read our Grading Guide to understand what each grade means before you buy.
How does shipping work?
Sellers set their own shipping rates and carriers. Estimated timelines are shown on each listing. Most sellers ship within 1–3 business days of payment. Tracking is required for every order — sellers must provide a valid tracking number when marking an order as shipped. Once shipped, you'll receive the tracking number via email. If an item doesn't arrive within the estimated window, contact the seller first, then open a dispute if you don't hear back within 48 hours.
Do sellers ship internationally?
Shipping availability varies by seller. Each listing shows a Ships From location (e.g. "London, UK") — check this before adding to cart. To confirm a seller ships to your country, use the Message Seller button on the listing. If a seller can't accommodate international shipping, look for alternative listings on the same issue or series page.
How long do refunds take?
If you and the seller resolve an issue directly, refunds are typically processed within 1–3 business days. If you escalate to a formal dispute, our team reviews within 3–5 business days and issues the refund immediately on resolution. Depending on your payment provider, funds appear in your account within a further 3–7 business days.
Can I cancel an order after placing it?
You can request a cancellation directly with the seller before the item ships. Once tracking is confirmed, cancellations are at the seller's discretion. If you receive the item and it isn't what was described, open a dispute instead of requesting a cancellation.
How do I know a seller is legitimate?
Every seller has a public rating built from completed transaction reviews. Before you buy, check the seller's profile for their rating, total sales, and any feedback left by previous buyers. New sellers with zero history aren't necessarily bad — everyone starts somewhere — but start with lower-value purchases if you're unsure. Either way, every order gets a 30-day dispute window through FindMeComics Buyer Protection — see that page for what's covered and how refunds are funded.
💰 SELLING
Is there a fee to list?
No listing fees, ever. We take 9% only when a sale completes. Orders under $6 pay a $1 minimum fee to cover payment processing costs. Creating an account, listing comics, and managing your inventory is completely free.
When do I get paid?
Payouts are released once the buyer confirms receipt or 7 days after confirmed delivery — whichever comes first. Funds are sent to your connected payout method (bank transfer or PayPal). Processing typically takes 1–3 business days after release.
What happens if a buyer opens a dispute against me?
You'll be notified immediately and given the opportunity to respond with your side of the story and any supporting evidence. Our team reviews both sides and makes a decision within 3–5 business days. Honest sellers who describe items accurately and ship promptly have virtually nothing to worry about. See the full seller section of Buyer Protection →
How do I list a graded (slabbed) comic?
When creating a listing, choose "Graded Slab" as the condition type and enter the certifying authority (CGC, CBCS, PGX), the certified grade, and the certification number. Slabs are searchable separately under Graded Listings.
Can I sell from outside the US?
Yes. International sellers are welcome. Make sure your listing clearly states your shipping origin country and whether you ship internationally. Note that international dispute resolution may take longer due to shipping verification times.
🔔 WANTLIST & ALERTS
How do wantlist alerts work?
Add any issue to your wantlist and set a maximum price and minimum acceptable condition. When a new listing matches all your criteria, you get an email alert. The alert fires within minutes of the listing going live — you don't need to check the site manually.
Why didn't I get alerted for a listing I should have seen?
Check that your wantlist entry has the correct issue selected (not just the series), that your max price is at or above the listing price, and that your minimum condition is met. Also confirm your alert emails aren't being caught by spam filters — add
alerts@findmecomics.com to your contacts. If none of those apply, contact support. Can I set a wantlist alert for a whole series rather than a specific issue?
Not currently — alerts are per-issue so you only get notified for books you actually want, not every issue in a run. You can add multiple issues from the same series to your wantlist. Series-level alerts are on the roadmap.
🧾 TAXES
Will I be charged sales tax?
FindMeComics is a marketplace facilitator under applicable US state laws. Where required, sales tax is calculated automatically at checkout and added to your order total as a separate line item. Whether tax applies depends on your state and whether FindMeComics has crossed that state's economic nexus threshold. See our Tax Policy →
Do sellers have to collect or remit sales tax?
No. Where FindMeComics is legally required to collect sales tax, it does so automatically via Stripe Tax and remits directly to the state — sellers do not handle or receive any tax amount. Sellers remain responsible for federal and state income taxes on their earnings and should consult a CPA for guidance. Full seller tax breakdown →
What is a marketplace facilitator?
More than 40 states have enacted laws that shift the obligation to collect and remit sales tax from individual sellers to the platform facilitating the sale. Because FindMeComics processes payments and transfers funds between buyers and sellers, it qualifies as a marketplace facilitator. It is required to collect tax in states where it exceeds the economic nexus threshold — typically $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions in a rolling 12-month period (California and New York use $500K). State threshold table →
Will I receive a 1099-K as a seller?
Stripe — not FindMeComics — issues 1099-K forms to sellers whose gross payments exceed the IRS reporting threshold ($5,000 for 2024, declining in subsequent years per current legislation). You will receive this form directly from Stripe if you meet the threshold. Consult a tax professional regarding your filing obligations.
📖 THE PLATFORM
What is FindMeComics?
A comic book marketplace with a wantlist alert system and portfolio tracker built in. Buy and sell single issues, collected editions, and manga; add books to a wantlist so you get notified the moment a matching listing goes live; and track your collection's value using real transaction data.
Who runs it?
A one-person project — solo-built, self-funded, no investors. Reach me directly at support@findmecomics.com.
Why use FindMeComics instead of eBay?
Three reasons: alerts, condition standardisation, and fees. FindMeComics notifies you the moment a book matching your wantlist criteria goes live — you set the max price and grade, we do the watching. Condition grades follow a defined scale with photo requirements, not just seller guesswork. And the fee is 9% on completed sales only — no listing costs, no monthly subscription.
Where does the comic data come from?
Our database is built from three primary sources: Comic Vine (series, issues, creators, characters), Grand Comics Database (barcodes, variant data, historical credits), and AniList (manga). Cover images belong to their respective publishers.
How are key issues identified?
Our team manually reviews and tags key issues based on historical significance: first appearances, origin stories, major deaths, and market-moving turning points. We don't tag every issue that "might be" a key — only ones with documented significance. Browse all key issues →
A comic I own is missing from the database. Can I add it?
Yes — use the Suggest a Series form and we'll review it within a few days. Verified collectors can also flag missing issues directly from a series page.
Is FindMeComics affiliated with any grading company?
No. We are independent of CGC, CBCS, PGX, and all other grading services. We support listings of graded slabs from all recognised certification authorities but we have no financial relationship with any of them.
Still have questions?
Our support team replies within one business day.
