SALES TAX POLICY

Last updated: April 27, 2026

WHAT IS A MARKETPLACE FACILITATOR?

More than 40 US states have enacted Marketplace Facilitator Acts that shift the obligation to collect and remit sales tax from individual sellers to the platform that facilitates the sale. Because FindMeComics lists items for sale, processes payment, and transfers funds between buyers and sellers, it qualifies as a marketplace facilitator in every state that has enacted such a law.

Once FindMeComics exceeds a state's economic nexus threshold (typically $100,000 in gross sales or 200 transactions in a rolling 12-month period), it is legally required to collect applicable sales tax from buyers at the point of sale and remit that tax directly to the state β€” regardless of whether the individual seller would otherwise owe tax in that state.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

πŸ›’ BUYERS

  • Where FindMeComics is required to collect, applicable sales tax will be calculated and added at checkout.
  • The tax amount is shown as a separate line item before you confirm payment.
  • You do not separately owe sales tax to your state on purchases where tax was collected at checkout.
  • If no tax appears, FindMeComics has not yet reached the nexus threshold in your state, or your state has no sales tax.

πŸ’° SELLERS

  • FindMeComics collects and remits sales tax on your behalf in states where it is legally obligated to do so. You do not receive or handle this tax.
  • Your payout is calculated on the item price and shipping only β€” tax collected from the buyer is never part of your proceeds.
  • You remain responsible for federal and state income tax on your earnings, self-employment tax, and any taxes not covered by marketplace facilitator laws.
  • Consult a qualified tax professional regarding your specific obligations.

HOW WE COLLECT TAX

Sales tax is calculated automatically at checkout using Stripe Tax, which determines the applicable rate based on the buyer's billing address and the nature of the item (tangible personal property β€” printed comics, collected editions, and slabs). The tax amount is added on top of the item price and shipping cost and displayed as a separate line before the buyer confirms payment. FindMeComics remits all collected tax directly to the relevant state tax authorities via Stripe.

Note: Tax collection is activated on a per-state basis as FindMeComics crosses each state's economic nexus threshold and completes registration with that state's revenue authority. If no tax is shown at your checkout, FindMeComics has not yet crossed the threshold in your state, your state has no sales tax, or your purchase may be exempt.

STATES WITH NO SALES TAX

The following five states levy no state sales tax. No sales tax will be collected on orders shipped to buyers in these states:

AlaskaDelawareMontanaNew HampshireOregon

Note: Some Alaskan localities levy local sales taxes; Stripe Tax handles local rates where applicable.

SELLER INCOME TAX OBLIGATIONS

Marketplace facilitator laws cover sales tax only. As a seller, you remain solely responsible for:

  • US federal income tax on profits from your sales (reported on Schedule C or applicable form).
  • State income tax in your state of residence.
  • Self-employment tax if you operate as a business.
  • 1099-K reporting: Stripe will issue a 1099-K to you and to the IRS if your gross payments through FindMeComics meet the IRS reporting threshold for the applicable tax year. Thresholds are set and adjusted by the IRS β€” verify the current threshold with your tax advisor or at irs.gov.
  • Import duties, VAT, or other cross-border taxes for international transactions.

FindMeComics does not provide tax advice. Please consult a qualified CPA or tax attorney for guidance specific to your situation.

TAX-EXEMPT PURCHASES

If you are a registered reseller, tax-exempt organization, or otherwise hold a valid exemption certificate for a given state, you may be entitled to purchase without sales tax. To claim an exemption, contact us at legal@findmecomics.com before completing your purchase. Retroactive tax refunds are not available once a transaction is processed.
