Every CGC and CBCS slab has a unique cert number printed on the label. Always cross-check it on the grading company's registry before buying.

Authentic slabs show no cracks, warping, or signs of tampering. Slight cloudiness on older CGC cases is normal, but the label should be pristine.

Read the label carefully

Check that the title, issue number, publisher, and year match the comic. "Qualified" grades (Q) or restoration notes (R, C) can significantly affect value.

Request spine shots, back cover, and label close-ups. Any reputable seller will provide these without hesitation.

Know the grade tiers

9.8 is the gold standard. The jump from 9.6 → 9.8 often doubles the price. Anything below 8.0 rarely justifies the slab cost unless it's a key issue.

A graded copy is only worth the premium if demand supports it. For common modern books, raw copies often offer better value.
