SECOND PRINTS
When demand for a first print outstrips supply, publishers issue a second print — often with a different cover (sometimes blank cover, red logo, etc.) to distinguish it from the first. A book that received a quick second print is a reliable signal of initial market heat. Some second prints become collectible in their own right, particularly when they carry new artwork.

What experienced collectors check before buying second prints.
Confirm it's the 2nd print: look for "Second Printing" printed on the indicia (inside front cover).
2nd prints on breakout issues (e.g., first appearances later recognised) can appreciate quickly.
Some publishers release 3rd, 4th, and beyond — confirm the exact printing number.
First prints will almost always command a premium over 2nd prints unless the 2nd print has distinctive cover art.
