Magnus, Platinum and Iron arrive at Babylab where they're ambushed by the Brain Children using telepathic illusions and attacks that nearly drive Magnus to suicide before Platinum intervenes. After the Metal Men are captured and imprisoned, Doctor Strangeglove reveals himself as Doctor Norman Techno, the "Father of Babylab," who ran experiments on pregnant women to create superintelligent infants with psychic powers—the Brain Children—hoping they would save Earth from pollution. Techno orchestrated a nuclear "accident" to kill the mothers, and during the explosion his typewriter and brain-stimulating equipment fused to his hand, giving him control over the Brain Children through his bizarre prosthetic.
