Doc Magnus and the Metal Men attempt to confront General Caspar but are turned away, unaware they're being monitored by the villainous Doctor Strangeglove and mysterious Brain Children. Johanna Rome arrives with a disturbing story: her pregnant sister died in a nuclear accident at a government facility called "Happyland" that was converted into a Pediatric-Research Laboratory, and Rome has been receiving letters from her sister's unborn child. When Caspar ignores Rome's concerns, Magnus splits the team—sending Gold, Mercury, Lead and Tin with Rome to investigate the sealed laboratory while he, Platinum and Iron return to find answers at Caspar's office, where they discover information about a secret government project codenamed "Babylab."
