Even before the Second World War, rocket scientists ? especially those in the United States, Soviet Union, Great Britain, and Germany ? dreamed of vehicles capable of space travel. The rapid advancement of technology thanks to the needs of war brought this dream within reach during the 1940s. Germany took the lead with the development of the V-2 rocket, with far more advanced ones, like the winged V-2b, intercontinental A9/A10 multi-stage Valiant and the Sanger space plane, under testing or development by 1945. In this alternate World War II, such developments went further, resulting in the first battles for the control of Earth orbit and, in desperation, disrupting the very stability of time and space.
