One-Punch Man started out in 2009 as a free webcomic by the author ONE, and after receiving millions of hits, the author was approached by Yusuke Murata (previously best known for drawing Eyeshield 21) and the two began a collaborated effort to recreate the series with Murata's art and release it digitally through Tonari no Young Jump (the online spin-off of Weekly Young Jump).
Though occasionally the work is promoted and released in the physical Young Jump magazine, it is primarily digital and these physical collections are the print versions of the remade series, even while the original webcomic remains freely available.
