Karma possesses every member of the old (and present) New Mutants! Cypher readies Illyana Rasputin for her brother Mikhail to transport the dormant Legacy virus cells out of her body, but the process goes awry, and they have to rush her to the ICU. The younger Rahne Sinclair breaks off from the rest. Sam wakes in a cell with the rest of the older former New Mutants. He places Douglock in contact with the containment field, shocking him awake, and they rouse the others. Despite his attempt to cure his sister, Mikhail will not deviate from his own agenda. He tells the younger New Mutants that Illyana is free of the virus. However, Doug Ramsey is suspicious and investigates. He soon learn she was originally healthy and Mikhail actually infected her, under the assumption that her mystical self would develop an immunity whereas her younger self (who died from the virus) could not. If Illyana could become immune, Mikhail could possibly cure his own infection. Inadvertently, Doug also learns of his own death. Young Rahne sneaks off to free the older mutants, but Mikhail stops her. They free themselves anyway, and attack him. Illyana and the New Mutants confront Mikhail with the truth, and he teleports away. Karma wipes out the young New Mutants' memories of their trip to their future as they go back to the past via Illyana’s portal. The present-day New Mutants reminisce and visit Illyana's grave.
