The Legion of Super-Heroes is altered greatly when United Planets-sanctioned members are placed on the team and Gim Allen, Leviathan, is chosen to be the team leader. When on their first mission, James Cullen dies and Leviathan blames himself. Leviathan relinquishes his leadership to Cosmic Boy but is convinced to remain on the team.
