Magneto is going to kill Senator Kelly in order to start a conflict between humans and mutants. He's interrupted by arrival of Sentinels who rescue Kelly and leave Magneto unconscious and wounded. Kelly is brought to Bolivar Trask's base, where Master Mold produces more and more Sentinels. Trask offers an alliance which Kelly gladly accepts, but then Master Mold proclaims that from now on, he's giving the orders, and decides to replace Kelly's brain with a computer and later repeat this procedure with other influential politics.
The X-Men attack Agent Gyrich and get information about the Sentinels' base from him. They decide to attack the base and rescue Kelly, even though bitter Magneto warns them against it.
The issue - and the series - end with a cliffhanger, showing the X-Men launching their attack on the Sentinels' base.
