Spoilers: The Eisenhardt's struggle to survive in a world quickly being dominated by the nazi regime. The Jewish people are being hunted down and forced to live off of 184 calories a day. (At this point, nazis are the ones rationing food to the Polish and Jewish people) Max sees a boy running with extra bread, people are chasing him for the food, and they knock him down. Max finds some extra bread and hands it back to the boy. Moments later, Max witnesses the boys murder at the hand of a Nazi soldier. Max grabs his penknife and attempts to kill the man, but his Uncle Eich stops him. The family continues to survive as Max smuggles food to his family. Ruth becomes ill. The family tried to escape Poland, but gets captured by the Nazis. A firing squad lines the family up and shoots. The bullets fly at Max's head, and he falls into the pit with his family. To his surprise he survives, and is put on a train to Auschwtiz.
