Superman and Batman, in the Fortress of Solitude, discover living probes created by the Kryll, who leech emotions from Earthlings.
A first prologue finds Batman patrolling Gotham City. He comes across a pair of crooks attempting a break-in. After subduing them, The Dark Knight comes across a mugging that turns fatal. He unleashes his fury on the mugger.
A second prologue finds Superman helping rock climbers in Metropolis.
The Man of Steel senses The Dark Knight's frustration and suggests a retreat to the Fortress of Solitude. There, they encounter the alien Kryll.
