Mystique is rescued from being executed by Charles Xavier and Forge and taken to New York City. The next morning Xavier and Forge explain to Mystique that she will now work as their spy for black bag missions Xavier needs done but can't involve the X-Men with. They let Mystique know if she doesn't comply they will turn her over to the authorities which means she will be executed. Mystique agrees to the deal having no choice and her first mission takes her to Cuba.
