The first mini-series focusing on Lady Death tells the story of her origin. Detailing her humble beginnings as Hope, a feudal warlord's daughter in medieval Europe, the mini focuses on the events that led up to her taking up the mantle of Lady Death. Hope's father, a brutal dictator in league with the devil, angers his subjects so that they turn on her seeking retribution. Accused of witchcraft, Hope finds herself sentenced to death for the crime. Her only chance is to recite an incantation she overheard her father use, calling forth a demon who offers her safety in exchange for renouncing her humanity and becoming Lucifer's subject. Thus, Hope is reborn as Lady Death, and takes her place amongst Hell's legions.
