Robot Archie, originally published in the British Lion weekly, had been reprinted in Dutch since 1963 in the weekly Sjors comic, and collected in a series of albums, De Man van Staal, by Sjors' then-publisher N.V. Spaarnestad. In 1973 Amsterdam Boek, having purchased Sjors, published their own De Man van Staal album. As Sjors subsequently changed publishers again, only one such collection was produced by Amsterdam Boek, and it would not be until 1980, when Oberon Books were publishing Sjors, that another set of Robot Archie albums would be produced.
