The rising storm continues to swell in this new chapter of "Born on the Battlefield." Just as Alcibades swore they would, the Aquilonians have come to Cimmeria. As part of their territorial expansion, they establish an outpost called Venarium (literally 'hunting town'). Meanwhile the Cimmerian tribes have chosen Gwydd, of the Pictkiller clan whose experience in battle with the Picts make him the most seasoned war veteran. Gwydd tries everything from raiding supply lines to burning crops to try to drive the Aquilonians out of Cimmeria. But when Conan discovers his old enemy Donal crucified to a tree, their past squabbles are forgotten and Conan calls for more desperate measures.
