Overview New York Times best-selling novelist and creator of Rambo, David Morrell, takes on Captain America in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE CHOSEN—a six-issue Marvel Knights limited series in the tradition of SPIDER-MAN: REIGN! Super-star-to-be Mitch Breitweiser provides the finest art of his career as he chronicles the last days of Captain America... Corporal James Newman, U.S. Marine, is stationed in Afghanistan. He wants nothing but to help this country and his own. He knows he is there to fight those that live for fear. Those that believe Hate is the same as believing in God. His wife has given birth to their son five months back and he can only hope that he survives to get home to see them. The attacks are brutal but he knows why he is there. During one attack, he takes out a sniper and sees a couple cowering in the corner. He begins to question how can he know if they are the people he's trying to protect or if they are really the enemy in disguise. Trying to figure out how to get his thoughts together, Captain America enters the room. Handing him his helmut, Cap gives him the inspiration to get up and continue. Outside, one of Newman's squad members is pinned under some debris. Cap uses his shield to block shots while Newman pulls the man free. Another squad member is stuck in his tank with a broken leg. Captain America tells him that they are there to help him. Newman manages to get him out and and carry him to safety. Newman calls out for Cap, asking if he can see anyone else that needs their help. A voice tells him that he can hear him. The man talking is his actual captain in his squad. Newman asks where did Cap go? He was right there. His squad says it sounds like he's talking about Captain America and Newman says he is. He tells them that Cap was next to him and helped save the men. They all say that they only saw Newman. The way he was fighting, he wouldn't have needed Captain America's help. Now Newman wonders if he's been fighting for too long. He wonders if he's losing his mind. Calling out for Cap, the scene shifts to a weakened Captain America lying in a hospital bed. He speaks to Newman even though he can't hear him saying he's braver than he thinks.
