While saving some high-school hostages from a villain called Ruin, Superman gets a visit from the pesky pixie from the fifth dimension, Mr. Mxyzptlk. He warns big blue of an oncoming crisis, but Superman doesn't buy it. Then he returns Supes to fight Ruin.
