The all-girls boarding school Tenchi Academy isn't just known for its quality academics. It's also known for training the top sword fighters in the country. Students in the special "Sword Bearer" program compete in a school-wide battle known as the Hashitori, striving to win fame and money.
Enter Kurogane Hayate. While her sister, Nagi, recovers from an injury, the spunky and cheerful Hayate takes her place at the academy until she is well enough to return. But when Hayate learns of the mountain of debt her orphanage owes to the Yakuza, she decides to become a Sword Bearer and pay back the debt. The only problem is that Hayate needs a partner to compete, and Ayana, the powerful and talented sword fighter Hayate needs to help her, want nothing to do with her!
