HISTORIC FINAL ISSUE!! Yes, it’s true, #71 will be the final issue in AC’s historic vintage western reprint anthology, Best of the West- but the title is definitely going out with a bang!! 64 big black & white pages of cowboy comic thrills, starting off with Dick Ayer’s HAUNTED HORSEMAN in “The Beautiful Witch”, a spooky spectacular originally published in Magazine Enterprises’ Ghost Rider #11. Then, it’s M. E.’s The DURANGO KID in “Hangman’s Law”, drawn by Joe Certa and John Belfi. Next, find out if Lev Gleason Pubs’ BLACK DIAMOND will be “Buried Alive”!! A wild Western mystery drawn by William Overgard, originally seen in Black Diamond Western #21, in 1950. Then, it’s film star TIM HOLT as REDMASK in “Death Ride of the Iron Horse”, illustrated by Frank Bolle from Tim Holt #36, in 1953. Then, a surprise guest-feature- The DARK RIDER, in an untitled story as rendered by the great Syd Shores, followed by The LATIGO KID, in “Smoky Showdown”, another classic oater drawn by a past master of the genre, Joe Maneely. Fawcett’s movie cowboy comics feature rings in next with an adventure of MONTE HALE- “Prairie Peddler”, as originally seen in Monte Hale Western #34, in 1948- and drawn by Gil Kane. The MASKED MARVEL appears in “Murder At Dry Gulch!”, illustrated by Tony Tallarico in Gunsmoke Western #11, 1950. Finally, it’s LEMONADE KID in “Terror’s Triggermen!”, as originally seen in Bobby Benson’s B-Bar-B Riders #8, in 1951, and drawn by Bob Powell. In addition, this issue features a never-previously-printed Gil Kane Western illustration, an editorial by publisher Bill Black, and inside cover movie stills featuring Charles Starrett and Jock Mahoney. Standard comic book size, saddle-stitched, with full color covers.
